• Match Facts:

    October 21, 2016 Ramsden Street Oval, Clifton Hill

    Time: 1pm

    The Big Picture:

    The Quokkas 2016/17 season gets started this weekend after a winter of activity. The Quokkas played indoor cricket through some of the Winter, which resulted in a finals appearance that was ended by a group of spritely 14 year olds.

    Another notable moment was the changing of pubs, from The Labour in Vain to The Gasometer. We’d certainly like to thank Roman and the team for their hospitality in the past, particularly when we trudged through the Sunday crowds with our coffins to get upstairs.

    The Winter also saw The Quokkas tour Sri Lanka with members of the UK Quokkas squad. While the games were a little one-sided, a good time was had by all.

    This first game of the season will be against the Terminus, one of the teams we were lucky to beat last season and a great group too. The Quokkas will be looking to get the season underway successfully, though will settle for hitting the middle of the pitch.

    Form Guide:

    Being the first game of the season, you could say that there is no form to go by. That being said, our last game was at GALLE INTERNATIONAL STADIUM where we got our arses handed to us.

    In the Spotlight:

    Nickname AW is Captain for this game and comes into the new season after an excellent Winter in the indoor league with bat, ball and in the field. Here’s hoping he brings this form and his famous enthusiasm to the game on Sunday.

    Pitch & Conditions:

    Ramsden Street Oval is no GALLE INTERNATIONAL STADIUM but it certainly is a favorite with The Quokkas, not least because it is close to the “Gaso”. The new pavilion provides great shade & the other facilities are some of the best in the City of Yarra.

    The only downside is the foliage on the eastern side of the ground, where friendly deliveries can get lost.

    Stats & Trivia:

    • Local is only 13 runs off 250 career runs for The Quokkas, given his average is 16.9, he should make this;
    • Jay is on 114 runs scored and 118 runs conceded, and could soon join the elite company of players with more runs scored than conceded;
    • Cat has 40 YPCA career runs at an average of 10, so should pass the 50 this weekend
