    Burnley Oval, Richmond

    1pm start

    The Big Picture:

    Despite a lack of match reports, season 2021/22 has gotten off to an unprecedented start, with 2 wins from 2 matches.  Mozz, there you are.

    The Quokkas go into the last game of this year with a pep in their step (or is that pop in their hop?), taking on a Pub team that we haven’t had much on-field success against, but always enjoyed playing.

    The game has been shifted from the “renovators delight” of WJ Cox oval to Burnley Oval, a ground we haven’t played on for many years, though did have a memorable match their once when the watermains had burst, leaving the off-side fielders being ankle deep in “something” for most of the game.  More memorable still was the Big Dogs slide through the mysterious liquids at the end of the game.  Good friend of water-born bacteria is The Dog.

    In all, very much looking forward to getting re-acquainted with our old friends from The Rainbow, as well as seeing how Yarra Council manages drainage these days.

    Team News:

    There are no debutants in this game, a first for this season.  Not that rookie nerves have impacted us, as shown by the results.  The XI (at the time of writing and in no particular order) is:

    1. Rivers
    2. F1
    3. Dutchy
    4. Radar
    5. Jay
    6. Alex (c)
    7. James Gow
    8. The Animal
    9. Local
    10. J Rod
    11. Rev

    In the Spotlight:

    Alex has bravely accepted the captaincy for this game and will be looking to lead from the front.  With a career YPCA batting average of 42.94, made up of 730 runs over 33 innings (16 not out), he’s been in particularly good form with the bat over the last 2+ years.  He’s also picked up 31 wickets @ 19.9           with some seriously bouncy leg spin.

    The Australian mens team has done well with changing Captains lately so….actually, the less said about that, the better.

    Stats and Trivia:

    • This will be J Rods 50th YPCA match for the Quokkas, and 62nd overall, many congratulations to the master of kit, last years leading run-scorer and deliverer of liquorice all-sorts;
    • The Animal is sitting on 77 career YPCA runs and has an average of 12.83, you’d have to reckon he’s a good chance to pass 100 if given a bat;
    • Jay, 34 YPCA wickets, is one more wicket off equal 4th for wickets taken overall.  With 2 wickets from 2 games, he’s a good chance of joining the Titans
